Essential oils are naturally occurring aromatic compounds extracted from various parts of a plant. For example doTERRA essential peppermint oil is steam distilled from the leaf and cardamon is from the seeds. The properties in these oils once tested for purity have therapeutic benefits that support well being.

Traditionally essential oils have been predominantly associated with massage but now millions of people worldwide are using essential oils in their lives. If you have used essential oils in the past you will have questions on the subject of  internal use. This is a new concept in the U.K. but not one we need to be anxious about when using doTERRA essential oils. Their is a comprehensive list of ‘Food Grade’ essential oils and I can qualify that during my cancer journey I used them everyday to support my body. So other questions maybe, How do you use essential oils? What are their benefits? And, which products from your cupboards will you no longer need once you begin using them?

Each essential oil can be used in at least one of three ways: aromatically, topically and internally.

Underneath these three categories sits a diversity of ways in which essential oils can be used in our daily lives, for relaxation, cooking, emotional health and physical well being. In countries worldwide the use of essential oils has replaced medicines and cleaning products in the home and workplace, so this naturally has added benefits by reducing peoples daily exposure to synthetic chemicals.

The daily use of essential oils can kill bacteria, viruses and fungus’s in the body couple this with good nutrition and mindfulness the immune system is then able to cope with the day to day stresses of life.

With so many different uses for to essential oils, it would be hard to list them all, so we’ve selected some of the must-know uses for essential oils.

Here are 10 different uses for essential oils that you can benefit from in your everyday life:

Household Cleaning

When my children were small using products in the home that were chemical free was a priority, every mother likes to feel they are doing the best for their little ones and big ones. DoTERRA  essential oils have antiseptic and antibacterial properties which is great for kitchen or bathroom use. For a refreshing alternative to household spray cleaners, mix a few drops of lemon oil with water in a spray bottle and use to clean your kitchen surfaces, bathroom and even your oven.

Essential oils for the skin

Teenagers generally struggle with the reflection they see in the mirror and  how they feel about themselves so try using lavender oil topically to reduce the appearance of blemishes. We know that when people use an oil and experience the results instantly the mood is lifted, teenagers need all the help they can get so lavender in its diversity of uses is also calming to the soul, its a win win for both, the parent and the child.

Alleviate Stress

We have so many oils that support the body when under stress, I think my favourite is Serenity known as the Calming Blend.

After my diagnosis of cancer my stress levels were off the scale  as you can imagine, I was in ‘fight or flight’ everyday. Months later when I  was able to feel and acknowledge the magnitude of what I had gone through came to the panic attacks. Serenity essential oil was my ‘go to’. As soon as I applied the oil topically I instantly felt calm and was able to carry on with my day or if I needed to I could  work with my anxieties healing myself in a holistic way.

Aid Digestion

If you struggle with digestive complaints and are looking for a natural remedy to ease symptoms, just one drop of doTERRA’s Zengest® in water can ease the uncomfortable feelings of having eaten the wrong foods or having a sensitivity to types of foods.

If like many others, you begin to flag in the late afternoon, pop a peppermint beadlet into your mouth it will do two things wake you up and freshen your breath enabling you to deep breath and feel energised. Three o’clock is the time we normally have that slump so try it and see how different you feel !
